Based on my experience, some of the main factors your android app promotion rank will depend on the following (based on my experience):
- Match between description and what the app really does (it can be related to a popular feature on your app). This will also affect your retention rates. Don’t try to fool people into installing your app through misleading description or app name.
- Relevant keywords in your app’s name, developer’s name, short and long description. You must continuously experiment with these.
- Localization for different countries/languages. It seems to help.
- Your app’s user rating (and the keywords used by people in their reviews). This is something you can only get by delivering an awesome experience to your users.
- Retention (Installs vs uninstalls).
- android installs, ratings and reviews
- Competition in your category
- Conversion rate (number of people seeing your app in the app store vs number of people installing it). This will depend a lot on your app name, logo and short description. Keep experimenting with these until you get a healthy conversion rate (20–30%). Wishfie’s conversion rate is around 50%.
- Search volume for the keywords you are trying to optimize for.
Check the top apps in your category and analyze the keywords they are focusing on. If those are relevant to your app, just use those.
Use Google’s search console (Free) or Sensor Tower (paid) to check the rankings for different keywords that are driving traffic to your app.
You can also use SEMRush to check the search volume for different keywords you want to optimize for.
One of the best ways to increase your rankings for your app or mobile game is through ASO, or App Store Optimization. I say it’s the best way because you can do it without spending a dime.
ASO consists of writing keyword rich descriptions for your app. Your title, short and long description should contain popular and relevant keywords pertaining to your app, so that when that keyword is typed in google play, your app will show.
I use Keyword Keg, it helps me figure out which keyword are popular, with various metrics that help you measure how useful that keyword is for your app, and you can then add that keyword to your app’s title, and descriptions.
ASO isn’t only limites to titles and descriptions, your screenshots also have to be nice, vibrant and captivating with minimal writings. Ratings and android reviews also contribute to ASO.
For example: A game about cooking should have the keywords “cooking games” or “restaurant ganes” or similar keywords somehwere in its description or title. These two are very high ranking keywords with relevance to a cooking game, as a result when someone types in “ restaurant game” in the google play search bar, your game has a much higher chance of popping up if you have the keywords in your title, and/or descriptions.
In fact, it’s quite surprising for us that its ranking ahead of apps like Facebook, Snapchat, WeChat, Line, Twitter etc. on the “Video social network” keyword, given all these social networking platforms are focusing on video.
