Low Cost App Marketing Tips

Now from the other direction, if your app is in a super crowded space, then a search that will include your app will be super common, however your app is more likely to be lower on the search list. So to address that, you need to make sure that your icon is super eye-catchy. Make sure your app name is clear and unique. It also helps to have in the package name of the app one of the main keywords you want to target. Focus on search optimization and most important thing is android ratings.

I just recently started going through this process myself. A lot of it depends on android promotion in your app really and what it does. If it’s something super niche, then you aren’t going to get very many “organic” installs because not as many people will be searching keywords that will bring them to your app. That being said, when someone does search for an app like yours in a super niche market, you don’t have as much to compete with and your app is much easier to be near the top of the search. So you might want to focus more on the external marketing like android app promotion.

Lastly in either case, make sure your promotional graphics seem professional. Don’t just post up unedited screenshots of your app and hope for the best. You can check the data on the number of people who visit your store listing vs the number of people who actually downloaded your app by going to the Developer console and navigating to the User Acquisition reports. If your ratio of visit to download is very low, you know you probably need to improve your store listing.
For reference, my latest projects have been Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket guides that help people have access to the data about each scratcher that they can use to pick a good ticket to buy. Before I focused on any sort of marketing, I wasn’t getting very many downloads per day because they were so niche (maybe 5–10 on the larger states?). After I started posting about them online and spreading links along with useful advice to other people, I saw my downloads drastically improve to getting roughly 30 or upwards of 60 per day on some States. I really wish I had known and started all of this much sooner.
Lastly, just try and market your app wherever you can. The more links to your app out there on the internet, the more places people can find and access them. I wouldn’t recommend just spamming links and expecting downloads to happen. I would approach your marketing by trying to give people some sort of value up front and if they like your content or want to return the favor, then they may check out your app. Your growth will be significantly more organic and meaningful this way.
